 MARDEN, SNODLAND AND STAPLEHURST
MARDEN
Marden is about eight miles to the south of Maidstone and about 14 miles from Tonbridge. It is an expanding village with good local facilities and its main line station with services to London Charing Cross and Cannon Street make it popular with commuters.
Well known for its competitiveness in sport, Marden is home to highly respected hockey and cricket teams and a new sports ground is under construction including tennis courts.
Marden also has a strong and diverse commercial community centred around Pattenden Lane (includes a gin distillery!) and this, local farming and transport communities are a good source of local employment.
TRANSPORT. The M20 is to the north of Maidstone (about nine miles). Marden main line station provides regular services to Ashford and London Charing Cross.
SCHOOLS. Marden Primary School. Secondary education is available at Cornwallis Academy (four miles).
RETAIL. Marden has a good range of village shops. SNODLAND
Snodland is a small town which lies about six miles to the north west of Maidstone. It grew on the back of quarrying (mainly Lime) and later with the production of paper. It is well placed for accessing the M20 and M2 motorways and has a railway station which benefits from peak-time high speed train services to London.
TRANSPORT. M20 (Jct 4) about 1.75 miles and M2 (Jct 2) is about four miles.
SCHOOLS. There is a primary school and The Holmesdale School provides secondary education.
RETAIL. There is a good and typical range of shops for a small town.
STAPLEHURST
Staplehurst is a large village situated about nine miles south of Maidstone
Staplehurst railway station is well-used by commuters working in London, the station being on the main line from Ashford International to London Charing Cross.
TRANSPORT. M20 (J8) is about 7.5 miles. Staplehurst railway station provides services to London Charing Cross.
SCHOOLS. Staplehurst has a primary school and secondary education is available at The Cornwallis Academy (about 5 miles). There is the Cranbrook School (co-educational grammar school) and The High Weald Academy at Cranbrook to the south.
RETAIL. There is a good range of local shops in the village.
