Fritz Fryer
How did Fritz Fryer help transport the Holst Victorian House back to the 19th century?
An incredible transformation achieved with restored Victorian- era lighting. How did Fritz Fryer help transport the Holst Victorian House back to the 19th century?
In this exciting project for Fritz Fryer, their experienced restoration team took on the task of sourcing and restoring Victorian-era lighting to feature in the Holst Victorian House.
Birthplace of famed composer Gustav Holst, this Cheltenham home has been repurposed as an interactive museum where visitors can experience the life of a middle class Victorian family, as well as learn more about the life of Holst, discover artworks donated by the Holst estate and view an actual piano that was owned by the composer.
For a project such as this, the priority is to source lighting that reflects the exact period and style found in this home at the time and restore these pieces to their original allure.
Due to the reputation they have built pertaining to their knowledge and passion for antique restoration, Laura Kinnear, curator at the Holst Victorian House, approached Fritz Fryer
with the significant task of using lighting to transport this beautiful home back to the mid 1800s. Laura is quoted as saying that she is “delighted with the new lights from Fritz Fryer.
From the elegant gasolier in the Drawing Room, to the maid’s oil lamp in the Scullery, they are going to make a real impact on the visitor experience, enabling visitors to step back into
the 19th century. They illuminate our museum in more ways than one and provide an evocative atmosphere for all who step through our door.”
Visiting antique fairs, searching online, and rummaging through antique lighting Fritz Fryer already held in stock, the restoration team found multiple un-restored lighting fixtures that would be perfect for the Holst home.
The lighting chosen for each room needed to both adhere to the specific aesthetic of the space, whilst also reflecting an accurate representation of the lighting that could be found in a middle class, 19th century home.
